how to handle with
Stress & burnout
notice
Burnout, or getting close to burnout, can feel like there is a never-ending to-do list, although you are working constantly. You procrastinate on things that won’t take long to accomplish. You stay up at night, not wanting to do it all again the next day. You keep telling yourself that you will relax once things happen (once you get the promotion, the busy season is over, school starts, or school ends). Relaxing feels impossible. You may feel stuck in your life. Even self-care can feel like a chore.
explore
Explore your beliefs about yourself and your expectations for yourself. Learn about boundaries. Recognize what kind of boundaries you have at work and at home. Learn how much other people’s expectations rule your life. Learn about healthy and unhealthy environments. Explore your values.
This is also where we explore gender-specific stressors.
understand
Understanding the consequences of staying in the current state is vital. Knowing that something needs to change is the next step.
Burnout and stress often accompany a change of circumstances. At this point, we are trying to cope as usual, but it’s not working. The tools that used to work are no longer working. Change is okay—you just need new tools.
